Kalamazoo Towing and Recovery — Founded by Jason Arndt
The story starts in 1998, when Jason Arndt launched an auto repair shop in Hartford, MI. A year later, he bought his first tow truck to help stranded customers who needed service but couldn’t move their vehicles. That first truck led to a second. The towing grew faster than the repair side.
In 2005, Jason purchased Zielke Towing and Tires in Kalamazoo — and Kalamazoo Towing and Recovery began. Over the next two decades, Jason built the company around one principle: show up, do it right, and tell customers the price before touching the vehicle.
Kalamazoo Towing and Recovery is a pure towing and roadside assistance company. We do not operate a repair shop — our entire focus is towing, recovery, and roadside service.
What We Do — And What We Don't
We provide towing, vehicle recovery, and roadside assistance services. We do not operate a repair shop or perform mechanical repairs. This matters for one important reason: our trucks are always available for dispatch, because they’re never waiting on shop customers. When you call at 2am, our operators are out there — not closing up a garage.
Our services: flatbed towing, heavy-duty towing, vehicle recovery, accident towing, long-distance towing, motorcycle and RV towing, jump starts, car lockouts, flat tire changes, fuel delivery, and winch-out service.
Licensing, Insurance, and Compliance
Kalamazoo Towing and Recovery operates under full Michigan towing operator licensing as required by the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED). We carry commercial general liability insurance, garage keeper’s liability coverage, and on-hook insurance for every vehicle in our care. You can ask for our credentials on-site — we’ll show you.
All of our tow trucks meet City of Kalamazoo wrecker requirements under Chapter 40 of the Kalamazoo City Code, including required warning lights, fire extinguisher, proper winch capacity, and safety chains. We are DOT-compliant for interstate transport on long-distance moves.
